Frey Holland

Alfre Holland, alternatively called Frey Holland, is the main protagonist of Forspoken. She is a young native New Yorker who is magically transported into the land of Athia. With the assistance of a magical sentient bracelet that grants her magic, which she nicknamed "Cuff", Frey embarks on a journey to find a way to return home.

She is voiced by Ella Balinska.

Background[]

Frey is a modern young African American woman from New York City who has been in and out of foster homes after being abandoned as an infant in the Holland Tunnel.^[2]

Appearance[]

Frey is a young woman with a slim built, brown skin, brown eyes, with straight dark brown hair. Initially, she is first seen wearing a black puffer jacket and a white beanie in the opening courtroom cutscene but when she is home she has on a dark green flannel shirt underneath with ripped black skinny jeans with a sort of handprint graphic on her right thigh. Frey's footwear is a pair of white sneakers with cross straps. According to Frey, her shoes "gotten me out of a lot of scrapes" despite their worn-out condition. She also wears her hair loose.

After she is transported to Athia, she dresses in the local garb first provided for by Auden after breaking the former out of prison in Cipal City and wears her hair in an updo style with braids on the side of her head and a bun in the back. Frey also has her flannel shirt fastened around her waist and covered by her Athia gear.

Personality[]

Because of her experiences, Frey struggles to trust anyone.^[2] It also appears Frey is notably short-sighted (emotionally). She repeatedly states that she wishes to leave Athia, quite forgetting she is homeless, penniless, has a poor criminal record, and has an armed gang after her head in New York. On top of which, it has been pointed out to her by Cuff and others that if she leaves Athia unattended, all the citizens of Cipal will likely be wiped out. She snapped and said it wasn't her problem. She seems to have grown out of this toward the game's end, though.

Cuff[]

Cuff is the first spirit, who inhabits a wristband Frey meets in Athia who acts as a guide while in it, but starts off as a rocky relationship. They often exchange bickering and banter to each other.

She is one of the first Athians in Cipal Frey befriends who provides her guidance on her journey in Athia to kill the Tantas and stop the Break.

She is one of the first Athians in Cipal Frey befriends who sees more in Frey than she does herself.

While Frey initially had little interest in the Tantas upon arriving in Athia, Tanta Sila soon accuses her of trespassing on her realm when in it. This immediately makes the Tantas see her as an enemy in their view, and in order get home, she'll have fight and slay all of them.

Sometime after being born, her mother Tanta Cinta transported Frey to New York to protect her from herself, fearing that she would be in grave danger once Susurrus corruption finished spreading over her mother. Frey was eventually found in the Holland Tunnel by the police.
