The Tantas are the magic-wielding, corrupted matriarchs of Athia, and the main antagonists of Forspoken. They were once benevolent rulers of the land, and were beloved by their people who appreciated their guidance until the arrival of the Break onto Athia. Now, they are wicked, powerful sorceresses who tyrannically rule over Athia.

The Tantas are the former benevolent matriarchs of Athia who each embodies a different virtue and possesses a unique strength. They were once beloved by the people of Athia, who enjoyed lives of plenty under their guidance. However, without warning, the former protectors mysteriously became oppressors, becoming aggressive and hateful. As the most powerful sorceresses in Athia, they pose a very dangerous threat to Frey.[1] Each Tanta dominates a realm in Athia with their own subjects and servants and forms of corruption by the Break.
